Picking Up Sticks on my Forest Trails without Lifting a Finger
Переглядів 11 тис.19 годин тому
If you've got trails like me, you know what a pain it can be to keep sticks and debris off them. For years I'd walk around throwing sticks off the trails almost daily it seemed until I found out about landscape rakes. These things sure are something else and are my go-to for keeping my trails clear of debris and smooth. Landscape rake shown in this video: MK Martin 84" (7') Landscape Rake www.f...
Why I Bought a Forestry Grapple AND a Skidding Winch
Переглядів 8 тис.День тому
I've never been someone to say you have enough tractor implements and today is no exception. I'm going to be talking about why I bought both a skidding winch and a forestry grapple for my tractor and what I like about both. If you're in the market for either of these pieces of equipment, today is the day to tune in to see what the pros and cons of each are. Glad you're all here to join me, here...
Saving Time Sawing Three Logs at Once
Переглядів 8 тис.День тому
Drastic times calls for drastic measures. With more logs than I know what to do with, the time is now to start sawing multiple logs at a time if I ever hope to stay ahead of my red pine thinning plan. With logs mostly the same size, I think I've finally turned a page and can now consistently achieve good cutting while minimizing waste cutting multiple logs at once. Sawmill shown in this video: ...
My Logging Operation Just Took a Big Step Forward

After seeing a tractor three point hitch forestry grapple for the very first time, I knew that I wanted it. Fast forward a few years and now I"ve finally got one. Today I"ll show you just how useful I think this forestry winch will be for my operation and why I decided to buy it despite already owning a forestry winch. I purchased this forestry grapple from Woody Equipment out of Quebec, Canada...
Why Running My Sawmill is Such a SLOW Process
Переглядів 14 тис.14 днів тому
If you've ever looked at a pile of my logs on my log deck and wondered how long it takes me to saw them, today's the day to find out. I'm often very ambitious to start out when I see a pile of logs thinking that I'll get to the bottom of them in short time. Nothing could be further from the truth as the time ticks away and the lumber pile slowly-but-surely grows. The actual reason for this slow...

Cutting New Trails Deep in my Forest

The perfect tool for tight trails. The mini skid steer is getting a workout with some trail work here today as I break new trail in a dense part of my forest. Just how useful will the Baumalight Mini Skid Steer be out here in the woodyard? Let's try it out. I'll be using the mini skid steer to help move around IBC cages of firewood from my firewood splitting area to my drying area. With the Eastonmade Axis and attached conveyor doing the brunt of the work, I'm more or less a driver on today's episode. Watch as I test the limits of the mini skid steer...
Loggers Tried to Buy My Forest

If you've ever thought about selling your trees, you'll want to hear this. As a woodlot owner, sawmill operator and manager of my own forest, profit is something I consider often as the forest is a profitable resource. Consideration all options available to me is something I do regularly to make sure I can make money while maintaining the longevity of the forest. Some days however, things don't...

As I've said before, I got a saw mill 3 years ago because of you and your education to me. One thing I regret is the location of my mill. I should have located it up by my firewood yard. More room, all the way around. like you said you need room. I now run out. I pay 6.50 to get a blade sharpen and only a few miles away. So I can't complain about that. keep me educated

Hi Sandy, We have hit high 90's here in North East GA in my end of the county it has touched 100, humidity not bad but no breeze, I learned how to sharpen circle blades over 35 years ago Bought a Belsaw Sharp all machine and went thru 2 motors and was shut down because Belsaw sold out and went out. no motors. Just recently found a used motor so its back up again. Bought a grind lux to do my band blades a few years ago so as long as I don't break a blade on big nails lag bolts porcelain insulators I sharpen them again several times and saves $$$. I love your vids and your honesty, Keep doing your best and don't worry about the rest. Cheers!

Projects! Like building a shed that takes logs in one side and allows the stickered lumber to be picked out the other side. A solar kiln! And eventually a big shed to house the dried wood. One day … yes, it is planned out.

i have a Kascosaw2B from Indiana. been thinking about putting trailer jacks on it like yours is designed, to rase it up .seems those jacks have play or movement and I was concerned about that. do your jacks move around were they mount does that effect your mill at all? i need to send you some pictures of my hand winch log turner, you can build one. i mostly mill 18"-30" hardwood as thats whats on our Missouri farm i enjoy seeing how some one else does things at milling

    • @sawingwithsandy
      @sawingwithsandy 2 дні тому

Hi Mike! Thanks for checking out the video. I don't find the movement of the jacks is too much as the weight of the log on the mill and saw head seems to hold everything in place still. Your sawmill sounds like.a nice setup! If you ever wanted to send over the pictures I'd like to see them. My email can be found on my main UA-cam channel page.

Hello Mr. Sandy, I bought a used HM130 last fall, I knew a little bit about sawing, but found out rather quickly I was also a lot less educated than I thought. My Nephew and I have cut several hundred board feet of all kinds of wood, soft maple, oak, locust, persimmon, pine. poplar, red cedar, each one has its own complexities, crooked logs, burls, knots and NAILS, You may not agree with me, but my feeling is you can be a good sawyer, but you ,your procedure, equipment, your working set up can always benefit from upgrades... out of 100% professional I am about 10% and watching Your channel has helped me get that far.
